What is LMS Architecture?

By Amanda DeVecchi

It’s 2023 and the way in which we operate, learn, and collaborate has evolved tremendously. For highly regulated industries, it’s important to have a learning management system that can adapt and make an impact on the organization. This is where having an LMS architecture can be a great asset not only for training the internal team, but for those learning outside of the organization as well.

What is LMS architecture?

Learning management system architecture has been a hot topic for the past few years and can vary among learning management systems. For the Meridian LMS, the focus is equipping an organization to segment learner populations and having insight to manage them all within one system.

Custom Branding

Custom branding comes in handy for designing catalog items for one learner environment and having the ability to have different branding for another. This can consist of brand colors, images, and most importantly, multiple domain URL’s. With the ability to create separate URL’s, this allows for a unique and personalized experience for all learner populations. With an LMS that has multi-domain capability, this allows the administrator to have control over what content is viewable to certain populations. Not only are multiple domains a win for the administrators because of the time savings, but it’s also beneficial for learners by having tailored learning to their specific needs.  With separate URL distinctions, these learner populations will have accurate catalog recommendations within their interface and high-level viewing access to material that is relevant to their role.

Extended Enterprise

While branding is just one piece of the puzzle, having this type of structure allows the organization to become more streamlined. An extended enterprise allows you to meet the needs of training internal employees for onboarding and compliance purposes. However, if you are interested in offering training beyond your internal employees to partners or customers, then an extended enterprise LMS will meet the mark. The ability to have various training offerings for multiple learner populations could result in efficient business processes and significant cost savings. With an LMS that can go beyond internal employees, it can have a significantly positive impact on the quality of training for the organization as a whole and streamline the process for administrators.

LMS architecture can have many different meanings for learning management systems, but for the Meridian LMS it allows the user to customize their branding, utilize multiple URL’s for different populations and specify the catalog accessibility. By delivering an entirely customized experience to the extended enterprise you can optimize your chances for employee retention, boost overall business performance, and maximize client satisfaction.
